Job Description: Healthcare Risk Manager
Position Overview:
The Healthcare Risk Manager is responsible for overseeing the risk management program within a healthcare organization. This role requires a thorough understanding of healthcare administration, risk assessment, and legal compliance. The Healthcare Risk Manager works closely with various departments to identify, assess, and mitigate potential risks to ensure patient safety and minimize liability for the organization.
Responsibilities:
1. Develop and implement risk management policies and procedures in accordance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
2. Conduct regular risk assessments to identify potential risks and vulnerabilities in healthcare processes, practices, and policies.
3. Collaborate with department heads and staff to review and assess risk management practices within their respective areas.
4. Monitor incidents, accidents, and near misses to identify patterns, trends, and areas for improvement.
5. Investigate and analyze adverse events, complaints, and claims, ensuring timely and accurate documentation.
6. Develop and deliver risk management training programs to educate staff on risk identification, prevention, and mitigation strategies.
7. Maintain a comprehensive database of incidents, claims, and related data to aid in risk analysis and reporting.
8. Keep up-to-date with healthcare laws, regulations, and industry guidelines to ensure compliance and recommend necessary changes to policies and procedures.
9. Collaborate with legal counsel and insurance providers in the management of claims and litigation related to risk management.
10. Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient safety and reduce risks associated with healthcare delivery.
11. Prepare reports and presentations for senior management and regulatory agencies regarding risk management activities, outcomes, and recommendations.
Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or a related field. (Master's degree preferred)
2. Proven experience in healthcare risk management, preferably in a hospital or healthcare setting.
3. Thorough knowledge of healthcare regulations, risk management principles, and legal requirements.
4. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think strategically and identify potential risks and solutions.
5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of effectively collaborating with various stakeholders.
6. Detail-oriented with exceptional organizational skills to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
7. Proficient in using risk management software and tools to collect, analyze, and report data.
8. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
9. Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM) certification is highly desirable.
10. Familiarity with quality improvement methodologies, such as Lean Six Sigma, is an advantage.
